The new issue, ODDA 24 Spring/Summer 2023, is a representation of this “new thing,” but encourages you to keep yourself grounded and discovering, but with a pause that allows you to educate yourself, judge with facts, observe, and then decide. Fashion is somehow a “mystery” for many. Last night, I had a lovely dinner with some of my colleagues in the industry. Of course, we spoke about how much is unknown about the fashion industry and the work behind what we all do in our different fields. I might say, one of the most unknown careers in the industry is within public relations.

PR agencies are not just a key pillar in fashion, but the soul connecting all the dots — they are, for me, superheroes. From the designer to press to media to the CEO, to planning the shows, the strategies, consulting to the brands, they do it all. For many of us, they also become friends, family and confidants while traveling from a show in Cairo to an art fair in London, to a shoot in Los Angeles helping you, or at least, giving you moral support, haha! For this reason and for many others, in the new issue, we dedicate a special feature to some of them who have founded their own agencies or are working in one of them, leading change, future, and supporting the new talents and new generations, such as Lucien Pages, who I consider my family, Klara Bredlow, who has been there since I founded ODDA, or Valerio Innella, who founded Beside Communications almost around the time I decided to embark myself in what my life looks like today.

The new issue talks about the big change in footwear in the past years, including how design is connected to comfort and the business side. A perfect example of connecting the dots is Achilles Ion Gabriel, the Creative Director of Camper and CAMPERLAB, who from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, is leading the big evolution of a brand which decided to break the rules a few years ago. We also speak with Ida Petterson, the Director of Buying at Browns, whose biggest passion is the designers of tomorrow. Additionally, we highlight Bernat Añaños, behind HEURA foods, a company that decided to change the way we eat —100% vegan.

Speaking about food, we spent a few hours with pastry chef Cédric Grolet at his Opera Patisserie. We also discover more of Heliot Emil´s designers, Victor and Julius Juul, who are passionate about food and fashion as a whole. Heliot Emil is building a community, where lifestyle and wearability goes hand to hand, youth embrace their vision, and they count quality over quantity.

Another brand that is making a change is Selasi, founded by Ronan Mackenzie in 2020, who describes the brand as “warm, honest, vulnerable, gentle, but strong and powerful. Selasi is pure joy.”

The covers of this issue are touching on our “current” cultural landscape, where singers, actors, and models are exposed to social media, the judgment, and the fast success without any control to the outcome of their projects, personal behaviors, and other external circumstances. Revelatory singer Gracie Abrams, who launches a new album this year and is touring with Taylor Swift, talks with Arlo Parks about the musical DNA for her upcoming record, how they both met, and why now is the time to take things slowly and Mark Vanderloo Jr., the son of one of the most iconic male models of the fashion industry, allows us, from Amsterdam, to get to know more about his years in Ibiza, how he balances this new life modeling, and how he faces the future, while being cognizant of his dad’s influence, despite living in a completely new era.

I think this letter is long enough now, but let me finish adding some names such as Woody De Othello, Monica Bonvicini or India Mahdavi, some of our favorite artists, who made time in their busy schedule to welcome us at their studios in California, Berlin, and Paris, to speak about new projects, exhibitions and memories.
